Project detail

You have to write a 1500-2000 words essay on Meniscus Theory and its relevance of it in solving a current world problem(problem will be disclosed once you are selected).

1)Factuality: That you demonstrate your knowledge of Chinese philosophy (on one
particular topic).
2)Use of sources: That you can make use of scholarly sources on Chinese philosophy
and provide proper references.
3)Clarity: That you can convey your information in a clear way that could be
understood by non-experts in your field. A good rule of thumb – one paragraph should consist of one idea only (around 100-150w.). If you notice that a paragraph has more than one idea – it is better to separate those ideas and write two paragraphs instead. The paragraphs should be coherently linked and the essay arrangement should be logical.
4)Analysis and reflections: This refers to the personal reflections you add to your essay. For example, you could discuss the implications of your facts or problematize some of the facts presented earlier in your essay, or discuss the modern significance of your philosophy-related topic. For this, you can take inspiration from the discussion questions you prepared for your oral presentations. The idea here is that you should go beyond the mere factual level of your essay and discuss the meaning and implications of those facts. This part is most suitably placed at the end of your essay, such as in the conclusion. A conclusion is not a mere summary of facts but should discuss the facts you have presented in a new light. It should add perspective, not provide new facts. Therefore, personal reflections can be placed here where you can raise new questions (that you don’t necessarily have to answer) and elaborate on the implications of the facts presented.

The main thing to keep in mind is to do research versus writing on some general knowledge. If your essay resembles a Wikipedia article that discusses Confucianism (or any other topic) in general terms – it is not a good essay because there is no research question or specific topic explored.
